You Can Let Go
I loved the feedback from my last post. You guys are awesome. Thank you. ❤️
I want to share something my pastor calls “fresh bread”—something you’ve learned on the fly. Maybe it’s a verse, a thought, or something God is teaching you in the middle of an ordinary (or not-so-ordinary) day.
Today’s fresh bread: My prayers have changed.
Hospital visits, treatment, and waiting for nine-hour surgeries have tested my prayer life in ways I never thought possible. But this is something new.
During one of the countless surgeries, the surgery was going long. They had said it should only take two hours. I later found out his lungs collapsed during the procedure. I was stressed for all six hours, praying through a journal of requests, my white knuckles gripping the side of the chair where I planted myself for those infamous six hours.
August 26, surgery day, was different.
I prayed and walked the mall like the older ladies. I prayed and met a friend to pray. I prayed and sat in the sun.
What was different?
I prayed without the stress.
Because through countless scary procedures and surgeries, He has proven Himself to me. He has taken care of us, not always in the cut-and-dry way I thought He would. He moved the mountain I prayed He would move. I asked, He listened. I asked, He gave peace. I asked, and He answered.
I no longer need to white-knuckle the grip on my prayer journal. I pray, and I leave it there.
1 Peter 5:7 says, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
Who? The God of the Universe cares for YOU.
He sees you as you sit at the base of an impossible trial that feels like it’s going to swallow you up. He cares. Take a deep breath. You don’t have to spend all your energy white-knuckling it.
There’s a reason He says:
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
Maybe the fresh bread today is this: You can pray without panic. You can trust without knowing how the story ends. And you can leave your cares with the One who cares for you.
He’s got you, friend.
Love,
Shalice
