The one item that is always on my must buy, must stock up, and must pack list is stripes. I happen to love them just as much on my six year old. Maybe more so. Paired with suede, jeans, or tough girl leather, you can’t go wrong. To be honest, sleeves are waaay to hot for NYC, but come next month we will be ready for them.  So ready.

This week has been a full one. Lots of changes getting ready to start school and tackling the challenge of ending our three year-old’s thumb-sucking habit. Our littlest is going though letting go of his thumb sucking habit. Honestly, so hard, but he’s three and it’s time. Disclaimer: the following tips are not fool proof, I’m not a doctor, and you need to do what works for you and your family. So, here’s my tips!

Tips for your toddler trying to quit thumb sucking

            1. Positive reinforcement – verbally reinforce how big a boy he is for not sucking his thumb. And if he/she has siblings, tell them to join in the encouragement.
            2. Watch a video about it – You Tube has some great videos for kids.
            3. Extra comfort– lots of hugs kisses – because you’re asking him to let go of a comfort … so give him lots of comfort and treats! My little guy loves mints, figure out his/her favorites and keep them on hand.

As for what I’m wearing, here are 4 boots, I recommend for fall NOW:

If I’m honest, I used to be the one in line at a big box retailer at 5:30 AM, not even sure what I was going for, but it was exciting. Not anymore. Now that I have kids and the hubs has that day off, my idea of the Friday after Thanksgiving is stay in bed in my sweats and shop online. Or pack for LA. I’m a sucker for beautifully crafted knits and real wooden buttons, so when I saw these Hemingway sweaters online at Monica + Andy, it was love at first sight. No synthetic fibers, just 100% soft organic cotton that my girls loved. Not to mention, the cozy sweaters fit perfectly over my daughter’s school uniforms. It’s been one of those weeks. We are renovating our kitchen and eating out more than I’d like to admit. So, getting ahead on my Christmas shopping list is not even on my radar. If it’s true that you look best when you feel good about what you’re wearing, then jeans are it for me. If you follow me on insta, they’re basically my second skin.  These slightly lived-in distressed AG’s are some of my favorite. They don’t lose their stretch from wear to wear, and they look amazing paired with a simple RAILS plaid and fringe heel. All late-night Nordstrom.com finds! I can also swap out the fringe sandal for chucks when it’s school pick-up time, or leave the heels and throw on some faux fur for date night. Seriously, nobody can debate the versatility of a good pair of jeans. And to justify my addiction to soft plaids, I plan on pairing these puppies with fringe and leather skirts all fall. Until then, I’m enjoying the occasional 70 degree day as an excuse to break out the sandals. I rarely say no to fringe, and this skirt is no exception. I thrifted a black version of this skirt and it’s still a favorite. Gotta love the texture and movement! I like it dressed up with a white or black blouse or dressed down with a denim shirt. I’m sure my 5 year old will be wanting this fringe skirt come Saturday when I get home. Until then, I’m squeezing in as many coffee shops and oceans views in LA as possible despite the insane traffic on the 405. Happy Thursday!

There’s a thousand tiles missing from my kitchen along with the baking soda, the birthday plate and let’s face it, an ounce of my sanity. But who’s counting? Someone please tell the weather to get the memo it’s not Winter, but still Fall. My poor 2 year-old Tiger, Candy Corn, Spiderman and Repunzel had to trick or treat in the warm and domestic confines of Whole Foods to escape the not-so-kind 40 degree, blowing wind wet elements. However, organic lollipops cancel out most wrongs. Including Mother Nature’s. Which reminds me, my girls have science projects featuring farm life which we tend to know A LOT about here in the city. HA. So if your specialty is farm dogs and chicken coops, please comment below. Until then, I’ll be hibernating in an alpaca cardigan, these comfy Rockport booties, and eating leftover gummy bears until LA next week.
