A mom’s bag is like her bag of tricks. I’ll never forget the clip of Michelle Pfeiffer in One Fine Day, digging out a boy’s dinosaur tee out of her bag and pairing it with a cropped blazer in a pinch. How’s that for momstyle? Because every mom I know has the same small catastrophes that look like a need for a snack at the stoplight, a bandaid in line at Zara, and stains all around. A mom needs a bag of tricks like no one else. Meet Lily Jade. Founded on the struggle to find a diaper bag that didn’t look like one, Meggan Wood didn’t want to lug around an ugly plastic bag. And who says we can’t have both fashion and function? I look for three things in a diaper bag: large, leather and luxe. For the days I’m running late from the mall to swimming lessons with popcorn falling out of my bag, I need all the help I can get. And how about summer’s new silhouette, culottes anyone?

Thank you Lily Jade for sponsoring this post!

The Weekend Chino (Tiger Lily) / Elbow Sleeve Shirt / Similar slinky heel / Bralette

I’ve been in search for a cropped red/orange pant (aka tiger lily) for a while and I’m happy to report my search is over. I’m so in love with these from Talbots. The fit is pretty true to size and I could have gone up a size for more of a boyfriend fit. I love a pair of red slinky heels paired with an orange pant, although I’m guilty of overwearing my favorite red slinky heels. Sounds a little out of my usual black and white default, but I like surprising myself. Also, worth mentioning, this wrinkle free top is great because I hate ironing, just ask my husband. I’d rather drive 20 miles to a dry cleaner in traffic with 4 kids screaming, “I want ice cream” out the window than bring the ironing board up from the basment. Lazy, or just smart? Underneath I wore a bralette I’m really digging lately for an altogether easy breezy look that I’d wear from girls lunch to datenight without skipping a beat. Or, just forget the heels, bring the flats and layer up the gold jewelry.
Thank you Talbots for sponsoring this post!

I told him to say “cheese” and he said, I can’t have cheese. Truth. He’s lactose intollerant, ha!

Our weekend BBQ was rained out, but the food was almost too pretty to eat. Almost.

Just before it rained!

Sleeping beauties . . .
My kids are reeeeeally hard on their clothes. It’s rare for me not to find stains and holes in their leggings and jeans (that I may or may not have created myself, ha!) Nevertheless, I am always on the lookout for quality and great design on a budget, so I was pleased to find both at Garnet Hill. Their passion for quality, outstanding customer service, and great sales began with one couple in 1976, and continues today. You can read more here. As expected, the girls dresses got dirty this weekend at the boathouse, but I’m not too worried. Thanks to machine washable and durable blends, they’re ready for the next adventure which we hope will be Maggie Daley Park. But, let’s face it, as parents, you can only plan because you never know what’s going to happen, good or regretful.  Check out our favorite kid friendly destinations in Chicago below, leave your favorites in a comment, and the dresses and sandals shown here are currently on sale (up to 50% off) till July 15, 2015, score!

Summer in the city should be effortless, colorful, and uncomplicated. Thankfully, LOFT’s summer line up is just that. My eye was immediately drawn to the nautucal stripes, oversize tops, eyelet dresses and graphic shorts I later discovered had an amazing fit. Your summer wardrobe just got easier. Whether leaving work for cocktails, packing for the lake, or datenight, these pieces transition easily. Just don’t forget the oversize tote holding the extra pair of heels. At least that’s how I do it. Now, only if walking through the nursery without a spill, fall or breakage with a party of six was that easy.

waiting for the cinnamon rolls . . . a saturday morning tradition

I’ve always loved the pairing of modern and antique. Whether it’s an antique gold mirror from my grandma with a funky modern light fixture, or an antique claw foot table with these chairs, it’s an unexpected combination that results in originality. Love! Another added bonus of a beautiful piece is that it draws the eye. And when you have fork marks and knife slashes with the occasional nail polish swipe on the other furniture, that is a bonus indeed. While we are not sure how long we will be in this house, I do know that when I need a quick decor pick me up, Lulu & Georgia is on the short list for inspiration and deals. Their design savvy pieces  can handle the kid’s occasional fork mark and are built for the long-haul. Design + function, my very favorite combination.

1.  “Weekends are for Waffles” tee – yesss!! Paired with these and a blazer. #hearteyes

2. Slim ties with stripes have my heart.

3. Ab wheel you’ll both enjoy. Warning: I was sore after using this.

4. Suspenders are such old school classics.

5. Nikes that will earn him compliments. I also love these in red. Go ahead, flatter him.

6. Replace his old comb with this beauty. Stat. Sort of a splurge, but if he uses it everyday, the cost per use flies through the roof. And yes, that is how I justify most purchases. Sorry honey.

7. LIV Swiss made watch is a stunner for the guy who has everything. It’s rebellious and sexy.

8. Wallet that wins for best color combo? This one. And he actually likes it. Score.

9. LEGO architecture series that is so impressive and looks great in the office.

10. This jacket for that rained out soccer game with a pop of neon to keep things interesting. Bonus? It’s on sale.

sandals / cut offs / jacket similar / crepe tank  / polish

On weekends, I wear either black or white. Sounds a little crazy but it keeps things simple. My go-to when I’m shopping for flats is Nordstrom, online if I’m in a pinch, or in store to browse, feel the materials, and try on. And what do I look for?
A flat with a little metal for an edge and an on trend ankle strap. Simple. I like it paired with cutoffs, leather jacket and a crepe tank. Sometimes the simplest outfits are my favorite.

Thank you Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!

Barbela gold oval diamond ring and tea cup I found at an antique store in Paris.

It is no mystery, that some of my favorite jewelry is the simplest. It also helps that the simplest works with my gig as a mom. Too many points and grooves snag and get caught, but not this gold diamond oval ring from Barbela Design. Known for its simple yet sophisticated jewelry for the young professional (and mom), Barbela Design balances glamorous elements with minimalist detail. So you feel polishe, but not overdone. Now, back to mom duty, first stop, mud clean up! Annnnnnd that’s why I always wear black. Ha! Exclusive to ShaliceNoel readers: use code: BDxSN15 for 15% off your purchase. Hurry, it expires June 9, 2015!

We we were off to celebrate my sister’s birthday party in the country after church, purple tulips in hand. Afterall, purple is her favorite color and my little guy was pretty fond of them, i.e., no one else can hold them. As you can imagine, we’re still reciting “sharing is caring,” to our newly two-nager. Our weekends are so packed that I need a no nonsense, I-feel-good-in-it-kind-of-top. This peplum fit the bill for its whimsical lines and stretchy fabric. Not to mention, it looks pulled together with my (very) well loved white blazer or denim jacket without looking too pulled together. The possibilities? Endless. Kind of like the grey chilly days here in Chicago. Here’s hoping the weather gets the memo, like tomorrow, because it’s June 1st, and we just turned on the furnace. Happy June everyone!

We’re attempting a short getaway, next week, (just the hubs and I, thanks mom!!) so here are my travel essentials. Keep in mind, lightweight fabrics and layered options fare best with unpredictable weather and chilly airplanes. If we were traveling with kids, this would look wayyyy different to the tune of black skinnies aka yoga pants, 100 cheerios, 25 fruit lollipops  and a chocolate bar thrown in. But I’ll save that for another post. Meanwhile, I’m all ears for your tips, tricks and travel essentials!!

ps. stay tuned for my travel essentials  . . .

Many thanks to Georgia Bateman of
Jorjah-b Photography for her friendship and photography!
