The verse on my fridge currently reads:

Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
    you make my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    surely I have a delightful inheritance.

Psalm 16:5-6

It has been a constant reminder to rejoice in the good and bad that this year has brought.

After having a serious poison ivy reaction and my whole face blew up to twice its size (yes, I was like something out of a movie), the nerve in my tooth dying, which caused extreme nerve pain, my IG account was suspended due to a glitch, and we moved ourselves. Yes, you read that right! After the movers we hired in Atlanta, GA, left after an hour complaining that it was “TOO HOT,” me, Reid and the kids packed up a semi-truck and a half bound for sunny California. Even Levi helped! We were wiped.

Later, I found out that I bulged the disc in my back from that move but didn’t feel the full affects until two months later. Moving right along, I found a lump in my breast so I’l be getting an MRI, and endured throbbing back pain from sciatica nerves, all that to say, it’s BEEN A YEAR.

Have you had a similar year?

The verse reads:

Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
    you make my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    surely I have a delightful inheritance.

I’m not writing you to complain but rather highlight the fact that pain is God’s microphone. In the dark days of pain and trying to find relief, I found myself closest to my heavenly Father.

Can you relate to a dark time of pain, loss or sadness?

We are where we want to be, settled in the west coast, however renting. We are grateful God graciously brought us back despite the competitive housing market and many details surrounding moving seven people cross country. Reid and I still have the itch to renovate and pine after the killer views in our old house in Pasadena. However, SOOOOO happy to be back in Cali, working.

God is good, how about you, how has your year been?

This fall you’d have to live under a rock to not see that RED is the color of the season. Here are 11 excuses to bring it into your wardrobe. Maybe you have a favorite maxi skirt and need a red bomber to make the outfit pop. I see lots of French vibes and I love it. Do as the French, and add that much needed pop of red.

How would you add it?

How’s your week? I’ve busy planning Levi’s first birthday party, managing school, work and it has been a full week! Shop my vest, blazer and pants look here in direct links and shop the post widget. I love hearing from you all. I compiled 3 big parenting tips that helped my week go more smoothly. Could you add one or two? I’d love to hear from you.

More plaid blazers

3 parenting tips for this week:

  1. Make a special snack or dessert. We picked up the cinnamon roll cake box from Trader Joes and it was not only a huge hit but also a motivation to finish school work and chores.
  2. Put music on! I play classical or praise music. It sets the tone at home.
  3. Give your teen and yourself grace. The truth is, you’re both going through a lot of changes. The challenges our teens face in school, and even physically are a lot. Our teens especially faces a lot of change with a cross country move (read more about that here). I had to preach to myself this week to give myself and my children grace. There is peace in that affirmation. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength – Phil 3:14.

It’s your turn, how could you add to this list, anything positive happened this week that happened as a result of a new habit or a new encouragement? I’d love to hear.

5 Coffee shops in LA

1 The Boy and the Bear 2. Republik Coffee 3. Intelligentsia 4. Blue Bottle Coffee 5. NEW! Alfreds coffee time (the westside favorite made its way to Pasadena and we’re so happy it did) Have you tried any of these?

Even though we enjoyed one day in Pasadena, California last week, didn’t stop by our old house. Frankly, even driving by is too emotional. There are too many sweet memories in that house like when Levi learned to walk in that very kitchen. But alas, we continue to make memories just in a new place. I’m training myself to see daily “glimmers” in my life, work and home. So instead of seeing triggers, I’m training myself to be aware of slices of the Lord’s goodness and grace (Levi’s smile, the blessing of my work, Reid’s love and dedication, my girls helping making dinner, and my boys mowing the grass) all of these things ignite a heart of gratitude. What do you think, have you tried looking for “glimmers” instead of “triggers”? I’m convinced this is the secret to a content life. What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Happy Friday eve x

We spent 4 dreamy days in Riviera Maya, Cancun, Mexico to celebrate Unico’s one year anniversary. Since I was their very FIRST influencer to stay at Unico and promote it, I was asked to be the first to hit the pinata. While I was feeling a little sick (2 months pregnant with baby Levi), the beach, the gorgeous scenery, and chill time by the pool made me feel WAY better. One of our biggest regrets was missing out on the excursions thanks to our flight arriving late. Be sure to organize that right away with your guide. Hopefully there will be a next time! The resort is all-inclusive that means food and beverage is covered with the price of your stay. Reid and I both agreed this is THE BEST WAY TO VACATION. There is much less stress having to pull out the Amex every time you order a daiquiri or guacamole and chips. And while we are on the subject, don’t miss out from their signature avocado smoothies you can order from the cafe. Insider’s tip. Have you been?

Here are some common questions I got about our stay at Unico Resort.

It is all inclusive?

Yes all meals are prepaid. It wonderful to have one less thing to think about! Hello fresh chips and guac on the beach.

Are children welcome?

It is an adult only resort. Leave the kids with Granny!

Room with a pool vs Room with a tub?

However I missed the tub, we both agreed we loved the pool room by the beach and pool!

–What to pack for Mexico–

White and black tanks and tees

Sun screen!

Forget the designer bags at home. I barely needed a bag

Rompers jumpsuits and dresses for evenings

Outfit deets below. Let me know if I missed anything and if you have any other questions in the comments!

We were so thankful to be able to return to Unico’s beautiful resort and recreate so many memories. We can’t wait to go back! Book your next trip to the ultimate paradise HERE.
