One of the privileges of working as a fashion blogger, is meeting and collaborating with some amazingly creative people. And through their creative lens, be it applying eye liner, a highlighter, or catching the Sam Edelman sandal beside the arch at that perfect angle during the noon sun, they make art.
Kelly, photographer extraordinaire behind Kallison Photo, is one of these people. My favorite part of the day was hearing her shout out on a cold morning, “Yes yes yes!! So good! Work it!!” How’s that for a mood booster?! I need a recording of her voice on a down day. Seriously.

Thankfully, this outfit ensemble was easy to style, an effortless combination of a nude sandal, black crop, highwaisted pencil, and trench for a typical windy Chicago day. I love how a crop paired with a high waisted pencil skirt can trick people into thinking you’re wearing a dress! And Nordstrom has some great choices including this Topshop crop that also works well with a white high waisted flare jean. Score. I’m more efficient when I can wear simple items multiple times. Speaking of, Nordstrom is my go to for the best shoes! The latter of which the husband is not a fan.  I’ve been talking a lot lately about investing in quality basics, for instance, not buying ten discounted shoes but two quality pairs of shoes. These Sam Edelman sandals are no exception. Run, don’t walk for that dress ala crop skirt and barely there heel. And try the quality basics speech for the husband and see if that garners you a new pair of sandals.
At least I tried.

Happy (almost) Mother’s Day! Here’s what I’m crushing on . . . (a list for your man)

1. A black watch, as I’ve mentioned in previous posts. Love.
2. Love the tie, the point and the color. It’s shoe perfection.
3. Coffee is my love language!
4. A comfy nude sandal? Check, check!
5. The cutest cards you can personalize. Genius.
6. A circle ring is a classic luxury.
7. New pj’s feel special to me, I don’t know why.
8. THE coolest transparent rain jacket. I’m diggin it. And this trench version.
9. This chambray, because I need one more chambray . . .

Tonight we stuffed our picnic blanket, extra pairs of shoes, and a basket full of food into the car and headed down for dinner at the lake. Yes, we’re that crazy family of six that goes to the lake for a picnic with coats on. Perfectly normal. As for what bag to bring? Well, that’s serious stuff. For such occasions, I often grab the bag that’s the softest, that molds to the body with lots of extra room to hold last minute things and possibly an extra pair of rubber boots.
It really was no contest.

This zipper briefcase in camel was handmade in Bend, Oregon; the leather is cowhide from Germany and feels like butter. It also came with a surprise: an interior detachable clutch that quickly became home to all loose change and fugitive dark chocolate. I can say that because I know the kids aren’t reading this. The brand is named after owner Anne Scott’s grandmother, Mari Lassa, who left France to come to America at the tender age of 18. Obviously, she was a woman full of passion and guts. Each bag is also a little gutsy, yet effortless and signature in it’s style. Visit www.marilassa.net to see more of her gorgeous handmade bags
Thanks Mari Lassa for sponsoring this post!

For those of you who have been with me for a while, you know I like my jewelry. And I almost always go with the adage, “Less is more.” Because with jewelry, it really is. I’m definitely a minimalist and usually, when I’m short on time which is always, I go with simple and light. But it is hard to find classic, well-made jewelry at affordable prices, so I’m super thrilled to share a recent find with you. Barbela Design is a family-based jewelry business located in New York City that has beautiful and classic yet urban jewelry. Their goal is to design jewelry pieces that can become staples in any woman’s repertoire. I personally love mixing gold and silver and this yellow gold circle ring compliments the rings I already wear on repeat. Score! Honestly, instead of ten rings, I’d rather one quality one that lasts long enough to pass down to my daughters and doesn’t snag on my sweater. Now I’m drooling over the oval ring for the other hand. Just stunning. Now through April 15, use code: shalicenoel20 for 20% off your purchase, how’s that for a happy humpday?

These jeans. New in 🙂
I’m a firm believer in going with what you like. Not duplicating a magazine picture from prints to rugs, but literally pulling the trigger on that mustard chevron print you’ve been eyeing. If you like it, you’ll find a space for it, and it will somehow work if you like staring at it each and everyday. I don’t stress or obsess over patterns, textures or bold colors. I trust my gut. If I like it, I go with it. Nine times out of ten, I’m happy with the result. Or I shift it to another room. I like to think a room is designed in layers. My approach is affordability doesn’t have to look cheap. Thankfully Lulu & Georgia deliver both design and affordability, from chairs to rugs to unique prints. While it has taken me time and patience to scroll through online shops, craigslist, antique dives and sift through secondhand treasures, the reward is having stories tied to each piece of artwork, rug or couch. And loving where you live. I know we do. Get 20% now when you use the code: “shalice20” at www.luluandgeorgia.com | Housekeeping notes: Like most rugs, some shedding may occur then will dissipate. For best results, do not use the beater bar on the vacuum.  I also pinned my 5 favorites on Lulu & Georgia on Pinterest. Let me know, what are your favorites?

Although this week consisted of nursing sick kids back to health and getting ready for my in-laws to come to town, there was something magical in the air:  new warmth and longer days. I love spring! To me, spring is synonymous with white pants although I’m better at styling them than keeping them white. Hello shout wipes! These pants epitomize effortless chic paired with a silk blouse and easily transition from church to date night before you can say palm crop top. But anything that elongates the leg, (hello nude heel), and universally flatters the skin tone, is worth keeping around. Yes? Now, we need the sequel to The Long Winter.

Cheers to spring!

Outtakes

This week has been unseasonably cold. Read Freezing. So, to battle Spring fever, we’ve been enjoying swim lessons and downing an extra dose of vitamin D. While swim lessons have been more about crying for mommy than actually learning new strokes, I think we’re all secretly enjoying the change of scenery. Speaking of, Spring is just around the corner, (or so I tell myself).  Here’s a round up of some of my favorite posts. What were some of yours? The upside of low temps? Snuggles and hot chocolate. And now, excuse me while I get back to that.
