I’ll be the first to admit that I sacrifice comfort for style, and oftentimes with regret. However, thanks to Børn doing what they do best, I no longer have to! The Mcmillan from Børn is a comfortable, edgy moto boot that goes with just about everything. One of the reasons why I love Børn: comfort + style. I tested both the McMillan and Gillian while pushing a stroller around Bucktown and Wicker Park, catching dinner at Penny’s, chasing the boys at the the park, and zipping around the house for a last minute clean-up for company. I am glad to say they passed with flying colors. These boots will come in handy in the coming months when I’ll be dying for some comfortable boots to sport in the chilly days. No doubt about it, I’m a little obsessed with fall. Winter? Yeah, not so much. But in the meantime, I’m drinking in this fall weather.

Anthropologie and Peter Som joined forces for an eclectic mix of happy florals and unexpected lines. A perfect collab. I love that I can wear this stripe sweater with jeans for taco night, or wrapped around a maxi dress. See more of the Anthropologie X Peter Som capsule collection online. Meanwhile, my mother-in-law is coming to visit tomorrow and I cannot wait! She folds clothes like no one I know and loves chocolate just as much as I do. I’ll have plenty of excuses to break out either of these outfits again next weekend.

Happy Saturday!

This week, school started and besides getting used to the drop-off and pick-up routine, I’m gravitating to one piece style solutions, a lá The Poncho. It’s like a stylish hug on a crisp morning. No seriously, and don’t forget the panama hat to hide the inevitable 8am bed head. Score! I love the Free People line because it’s the drama of bold patterns and colors but without the drama of looking like your neighbor. If you’re not fortunate enough to have a Free People store by you, Nordstrom carries it all.  From dresses to ponchos to vegan leather jackets and this chambray (that’s next on my list), it’s a one-stop-shop at Nordstrom and I get excited just thinking about it. I love fall. And thanks to this easy poncho, you’ll be dressed faster than it takes your toddler to find his shoes. That’s a win in my book.

Mug shot
I’m often asked what are my favorite children’s clothing lines? While I don’t really have one specific label I really love, a curated children’s clothing service makes my life easier! Namely, back to school, a Christmas card shoot or vacation wardrobe. No, seriously. Why haven’t they come up with this sooner? Mac & Mia are on the ball, y’all. It’s a great way to skip the boutique and still get hand-picked, unusual, environmentally responsible threads. And as a side note, let’s be honest. Some of my worst fights with my girls are over getting them to wear what I want them to wear. This starts too early! So, it was a relief that everything in the box was liked by them and approved by me. Amen.

How it works:

1. Go HERE and click the green button “Get Started,” create an account, and enter your credit card info. Then enter your child’s information and taste. I actually really enjoyed this part. I believe each of my children have a distinct taste and filling out the style profile let’s you express that. Whether they fall under classy or boho, preppy or sporty, have fun with it!

2. Your assigned stylist will send you 6-8 coordinating pieces using the information you entered.

3. Enclosed in the package is a FEDEX return label. Return what you don’t like, keep the rest. It’s that simple.

4 Ways to Fake Yourself into a Workout
Somtimes the best workout is the one you don’t know you’re having. Like chatting with your best friend on a bike and burning 240 calories. Try it sometime. While I prefer to chat at a coffee shop, the hubs prefers datenight at the gym. Not joking. Here are my preferred ways to fake myself into a 500 calorie burning fest while, dare I say, having fun?!
1. Go walk a shelter dog. For those local to Chicago, we volunteer here.
2. Visit the Art Museum. We love the Art Institute. It’s probably 100 steps to Van Gogh.
3. Rent a DIVVY and try a new bike trail
4. Join a running club. There’s nothing better than peer pressure to get you moving!

Bonus: Do it in neon. Light colors are shown to inspire us, improve our mood and practically speaking, make us more visable to moving traffic. And I’m loving the feminine straps on this cami, perfect to pair with a soft neon jacket and comfy capris. And don’t forget the stroller base that converts your BUGABOO to a jogger. It is genius for those impromptu runs with your neighbor where you discuss back-to-school stuff or that horrible morning you just had and you’re not even aware of the workout you’re getting. See my favorite not so mumsy diaper bag here (in blue) and my favorite stroller here and here.

Love these bowls and plates from ANTHROPOLOGIE

I’m often asked, How do you start your day? What’s your favorite breakfast? This is actually a really easy question to answer as I’ve had the same thing every morning for months. My kids like it, too, and none of us are sick of it  . . .  yet. I prep the night before with bananas on the brink of getting brown and fresh pineapple. Both I cut, place into ziploc bags, and freeze to make things easier.
C‘est voilá.
1 frozen banana
1 cup of frozen pineapple
1/2 clove garlic
1 tablespoon ginger
1 cup coconut water, or just water
A couple leaves of kale, collard greens, or chard
Place in a Vitamix or blender till smooth and enjoy.

Finally crisp air! Or, here’s to hoping for crisp air at any rate. As I write this, the temp outside feels like a sauna and all I can dream about is an excuse to bust out the new aviator jacket and belted camel coat. Yes, fall beats them all for me. I even layer in summer despite the fry-the-egg-on-the concrete weather. So what is my fall footwear edit? It’s simple: laced up and mid-calf. That’s why I love these two from Isolá. Both transition from work to mojito’s without missing a beat. I even managed to wrestle my two-year-old who was in hot pursuit of a moving train while wearing these. To complete the look, toss on a simple cotton LBD and aviator jacket for those (supposed) crisp mornings and (non-existent) lazy afternoons. And thank goodness for forgiving black LBDs and comfy (as in actually padded-footbed-comfy) booties. Because even though I’m running non-stop like a chicken without a head, I don’t have to look the part. For now, I’m dreaming of hot tea, an excuse to wear one of my 99 jackets, and these booties. One for date night, the other for church or work wear. Because like summer, fall goes way too fast. So boot up, appropriately.

I’m all about the bang for the buck and today was no exception. I dressed down an under $150 sequin cocktail dress with a distressed jean jacket and my go-to nude heels. All of which I wore at today’s Create & Cultivate conference while the hubby took the kids to the park. I swear that man is a saint!
All outfit deets are linked, but let me know if you have any questions.

Stroller Similar BUGABOO “Cameleon”
Traveling as a family of six is anything but easy so having the right gear is key. Between you and me, I secretly love wearing yoga pants, a bright tank and running shoes. No running or yoga is involved mind you, it’s just my Green City Market/Target/I-have-fifteen-errands-to-run gear. As you probably know, Nordstrom kind of has it all, and their selection of work out gear is just as great as their jaw-dropping shoe department. Whether you plan on working out or grazing on Michigan peaches, they’ve got you covered. They’ve also got some of my favorite baby gear, including strollers–yes! strollers!–diaper bags, etc. I linked the outfits I’m wearing and a similar affordable Bugaboo Bee. Am I the only one who fakes workout with the gear? Here’s to more weekends in workout gear that may or may not inspire the workout. What matters is that you’ll look good trying.

Thank you Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!
