Back at it: How Backless is in

by Shalice Noel August 28, 2017
written by Shalice Noel

I recently came across this cashmere open back sweater with beautiful tie detail. Immediately my mind wandered to styling it with high waisted jeans, cropped high waters, and pencil skirts. I liked it mostly because the look felt elevated and party ready. While I’ll admit this trend is challenging my (non-existent) back workout, I’m committed. Not many trends can get me to do an extra set of pull ups, push ups and squats, but I’m back at it. The question whether which undergarments are best worn with these tops is answered below with a couple options. As far as styling them, the options are almost endless from high waisted pants (to disguise the bodysuits most have) and pencil skirts. How would you wear yours?

rag & bone favorites

dre jeans :: sweater similar :: boots :: small field messenger

You probably guessed it already because yeah, they’re awesome, but I’m wearing one of my favorite pairs of jeans this fall from cult jean company, rag & bone. Somehow they always manage to stun us with their shapes, stripes and denim washes, but really? We all know what really matters when it’s all said and done, and that is the Fit. When you look at it that way, knowing that they have one of the best fits out there (and that’s saying something) and then look at the perfect distressing, cut-out details and overall awesomeness, it is not surprising to know that rag & bone has a crazy cult following. Who knew 98% cotton and 2% polyurethane is the recipe for that coveted fit? No fail, perfect hug every time. And maybe a little more hug after Taco Tuesday. Just saying.

I’m wearing the 10-ounce stretch Japanese denim slim fit boyfriend jeans in the dark but not too dark medium indigo wash with my calf suede booties with the 3.5″ heel. You’ll find me wearing these with booties, or pumps with a blazer for meetings, or platform sneakers for park dates. The key to versatility is quality basics that just get better with time. And yes, after one pair of their jeans, you just may want another pair.

Thank you rag & bone for sponsoring this post!

With the kids starting school, I’m in search of easy meals and even easier outfits. Enter the easy one-piece. This chambray one-piece romper is just what I was in search of paired with sleek OTK boots to kick it up a notch.  See an under $228 option here). Speaking of boots, it’s a great time to get your hands on the coveted always sold-out over-the-knee boots. I was scouring the internet last year for over the knee boots in my size 9. I’m embarrassed to say how long it took but I finally settled on these gray ones in size 9.5. As a good friend should, I’m telling you now, before the leaves change and your neighbors are wearing OTK boots holding their PSL’s (pumpkin spice lattes). Warning you’ll be seeing me style these boots many times over, which just means its a great buy. What are some of your favorite Fall buys?

Recipe for the Comfiest Outfit

What’s the recipe for the comfiest outfit? Oversize sweater, flats, and jeans. Honestly, I’m not HUGE into flats but they’re terribly practical walking around with half a preschool, so yes I’m a fan. If you’re curious what to buy – that’s doesn’t cost more than your monthly latte budget, scroll down. I’d steer away from overly trendy, certainly durable and just a trifle interesting to upgrade the momiform.

Scroll down . .

Oversize sweaters are my jam. Endless comfortable opportunities with flats and jeans.

Speaking of jeans, these black ones are under $50, and these faux leather leggings are awesome and under $30, you’re welcome!

Flats are the shoes you wear when you have a non-stop day, lots of demands and carrying children, etc. These are some I love:

I’m not sure what I love more, long summer nights sipping wine on the porch or awesome bodysuits I can’t stop wearing Monday through Saturday. I’ve been wearing this ruffled one so much so, its embarrassing. Even hubby made a comment! It’s chic with jeans, a skirt or pleated pants. Here, I’m wearing it with a linen trench, distressed jeans and fall’s must-have red boots. I’m linking some of my favorites below. Hope you have a lovely Monday!

A bodysuit is a summer must-have that easily transitions to fall. And did I mention a bodysuit with an interesting back is even better? Here are some of my favorites:

Red boots are fall’s stunner, get them before they sell out during NYFW. I love them with denim or a punch of color paired with a monochromatic look:

I love a lightweight trench for layering casual or dressy looks. It’s an easy way to look “pulled together” without trying too hard.

What are some of your favorite layers?

JUST ADD PINK

one. coziest cardigan two. the best nude lipstick ::three. essential statement earrings :: four :: silk scarf :: five. sneakers (only $70!) and these PINK sneakers  :: six. the cutest pink bag :: seven. Jeans Under $100

bonus: ombrè sunglasses

Pink Sneakers:

It hasn’t always been my favorite color, but lately I’ve been gravitating to it! It’s a great accent color that has even my girls jealous, “A pink bag mommy!? Can I have it?” What else can look great with black, grey and denim and still look classic and girly? It’s pink! Don’t forget to balance it with a monochromatic look as too many colors will make pink look a little pepto bismol. Go wear your pink this weekend, and tag me when you do. I’m planning on wearing the above cardigan aptly named “Saturday Cardigan” perfect for crisp mornings.

Happy Weekend!

Polka Dots Under $100 with Nordstrom

by Shalice Noel August 15, 2017
written by Shalice Noel

We have a busy season coming up with summer ending and school right around the corning.  So this is the time to put on our favorite OOTD and hit the Art’s District for a leisurely walk around one of the most inspiring areas of Los Angeles.  The area is thriving with old warehouses, murals and creative/fashionable people everywhere.  I can’t help but leave with fresh new ideas I can’t wait to explore in my own closet.  Fully inspired, I headed to Nordstrom looking for that pre labor day dress that was cute, but edgy.  Polka dots are unapologetically bold and cute any season.  The dress I’m wearing can be dressed up with heels for a meeting DTLA or dressed down with sneakers for an ice cream date in Pasadena. I also found this polka dot skirt (under $100!).

As for Nordstrom, well, who doesn’t love Nordstrom? Their customer service is five-star, and I seriously think that (along with their amazing merchandise selection) is what sets them apart from most retailers. I often go to Nordstrom with kids and a tight schedule and I’m always given the best service and the most options while my kids love getting balloons in the shoe department every. single. time. Whether I make it to the store or shop online, Nordstrom is my go-to for daily fashion and really should be for any busy mom on the go. I mean, I prefer dot com just to avoid the dressing room tantrums and constant “can we go” requests, but curb side service also works. All in all, Nordstrom makes it easy to get what you want, when you want it. So go find you some polka dots!

Back to School with Target, A Bullseye View

by Shalice Noel August 14, 2017
written by Shalice Noel

The Targetstyle team recently asked me a couple questions about their new Cat & Jack line for back to school. Read on!

Which of the latest kids’ back-to-school- clothing trends at Target caught your eye the most, and why?

Three trends that especially caught my eye were distressed details, patches and metallics.  I’m especially a fan of the distressed style which is no secret.  Plus, the kids quickly put holes in their jeans from wear and tear so its one less thing to worry about! Thankfully, the kids were wild about the patches and metallics.
What are some of the top factors you consider when picking out your back-to-school clothing for your kid?

Picking out clothes for back to school season can be overwhelming.  What I look for are clothes that are comfortable and yet stylish so they will happily wear and express their unique personalities. I love the stripe tee with the lightening bolt since it will go with so many outfits. For the sake of my laundry, I appreciate clothing options that mix well with anything in their closet.  I prefer nothing matchy – matchy and how they style themselves can be so entertaining.  When your running out the door, you just have to go with it.
Walk us through the selects you chose – what inspired you to select those options and how did you choose to style them?
My oldest daughter loves anything with glitter, so the metallic options were perfect for her.  The metallic backpack, star pattern skirt with stripe shirt will be her go-to items throughout the school year.  The second oldest is a bit more difficult.  She likes anything sporty.  Her first select was the brightly colored bomber jacket.  With that we chose more neutral denim with classic velvet sneakers.  Our son was giddy with the super hero choices, and was quickly showing off his high-top wings.  His look was one of my favorites. I mean, what’s not to like about a comic book patch sweatshirt and rocket ship shirt?

Any more questions we missed? Comment below! I’m excited to announce we’re also featured on Target’s blog, answering some questions about the collection and what my kids liked from it.

When you find a dress . . .

by Shalice Noel August 13, 2017
written by Shalice Noel

Do you know when you find a dress that’s a keeper and you can’t stop wearing it? Well, I think I found it. I posted a selfie wearing it with these heels, a bootie, and today I wore it to church. It flows beautifully (meaning you can dance in it) and has a longer cut in back so no worries when bending down with the kids. For chilly evenings catching sushi with friends, add this suede jacket. Happy Sunday!
