4 Ways to Look Better in your Own Clothes

by Shalice Noel

I’m sharing a couple styling tips I use myself. To be honest, it’s not everyday I feel 100% in an outfit. It takes lots of trial and error to get an outfit right for an event, occasion, or the blog. When I don’t feel like wearing anything but pajama pants, aka having an ‘off’ day, I use the following tips:

1. Nude heels elongate the leg, making you appear taller.

2. A Belt – Cinching the waist is the easiest way to creating shape.

3. Pointed Toe shoesΒ and boots –Β believe it or not, a pointed toe boot, heel or flat also elongates the legs, making you appear taller and therefore slimmer.

4. Wear monotone colors – for example, wear a let’s say black turtleneck with a black pencil skirt underneath a cozy shearling coat or colorful blazer.Β Instant slimming! No protein shakes, 35 min stair steps, or exhausting cardio required. Sound convincing?

THIS designer was onto something, chevron is an incredibly flattering shape. See my Β top chevron picks here.

Shop the look below. I’m curious, what are your tips to looking the best in your own threads? I can’t wait to hear.

For me, black never fails when I’m not feeling my best. Another trick I employ is long proportion in a flowing fabric. It instantly makes me feel long and lean, and gives a little “Cinderella at the ball” effect with swishy fabric πŸ˜‰
Loved your suggestions! xo

Great tips! I’m happy to read I’m not the only one who sometimes doesn’t feel so great in an outfit they’re wearing. I love the belt idea but I have wider hips so I don’t like drawing attention to that part of my body, even with high waisted jeans I’m a little self conscious about it. Recommend any styling tips?

HI Sarah! Yes, we all have our moments, for wider hips, i’m loving this dress in black: http://rstyle.me/n/cdc5i58gb6, A line does wonders for wider hips, and as for jeans, stick to a darker wash jean (or black jean), black turtleneck, add a belt and a SUPER long cardi. I just picked up this one: http://rstyle.me/n/cdc5un8gb6
Hope that helps! xx

Hahah! I wish I would have seen this on Monday!! I wore THE. WORST. OUTFIT!! I saw myself in an elevator from the back, and I was like “Dear Annie, what are you thinking!?” It was horrendous!!

The next day, and the entire week onward, I made sure to do something that makes me feel great in any outfit: show off my legs! I’ve gained some weight, so, since my legs remain thin, I need to style THEM! I wore shorts with fishnets on Tuesday, and skinny velvet flared pants on Wednesday. Then for Thursday and Friday I got away with jeans. But man, that skirt I wore on Monday–a cute midi, it’s gotta go. Better yet, I’ll lose the kgs so the skirt can stay, but I’ll never wear it with my Madewell “Ciao” sweatshirt (inspired by your tee;) again. If I ever wear that skirt in again, I will make sure to create a waist. Ugh!!

So funny. All of your tips are so great. Thank you!!

Love, Ann from Kremb de la Kremb
