Happy Humpday! It’s the last days of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale – 4 days left to be exact ending August 6. Is anything left you ask? Yes! I’m often asked, how to style a plaid coat. Well, if you’re more like a black coat type of person, have no fear. A lot of basics and neutrals tone down the craziest of coats. First step is a suede skirt, neutral top (I like a touch of ruffle under $70!), and brown bootie. A combo I can wear to church, birthday parties and meetings. Falling for layers: Boyfriend Cardigan

Even though we moved to southern California, I refuse to give up all the knits and cardigans. Namely the oversize ultra-cozy layer known as the boyfriend cardigan. I prefer it in a marled oversize knit over just about anything. <Sigh,> I love Fall. Monday, I may throw it over a lacey cami, Wednesday over a striped tee, Friday, over a mock neck turtleneck. As much as the options are endless on top, they are also on bottom. For example, you can wear the cardi over jeans (I prefer skinny’s or THESE to balance the oversize cardigan), coated faux leather jeans, leggings, or sailor shorts. Despite Fall temps only lasting till 10am PST on a given day, I will relish every hour of it, with a cup of tea in hand.

As we all know, velvet is as hot as Malibu in October. HOT. While we love it because it plays with the light, we wear it because it feels like the coziest throw pillow. No joke. No wonder we’re all going gaga for velvet. Well, I am no exception. Here, I styled it with leather coated jeans, and midi brown boots. At a cool $148, its a great buy. I’ve already worn it three times in two days. How’s that for cost per wear?

My baby has been requesting sword fights and refusing kisses. Yup, he’s joined the ranks of all the three-nagers. Cue the tears. However, I’m still loving this short time I have with him at home. His questions, his voice and occasional naps while laying on me. The latter I won’t lie is uncomfortable, but its precious. Since I work from home, I love switching it up with flowey pants – a nice change from the faux leather skinnies. And did I mention comfy? Now, off to lots of meetings. Happy Friday Eve!

Don’t get me wrong, some of my favorite outfits are centered around a black moto jacket. However, I’m ready to ditch it for a hot minute while I try the tan version. I’m obsessed with camel, tan taupe, dirt brown, or however you like to call it. It goes with my ever-growing black-out wardrobe and looks great layered. Brown on brown, or dark brown on light brown, anyone? On this occasion, it was our day date; admittedly a rare occasion with work demands, late nights and let’s admit it, we’re just plain tired. So, we left the house for a date at Urth Caffé which included lots of coffee, boba, funky salads and some antique furniture exploring. Fun right? So, in between giving myself a break from the boyfriend cardi’s, and chunky knit sweaters, I’ll be wearing this tan version on repeat. ps. I just bought this cami to go underneath. Cheers to day dates, chillier days and lots of layers. Happy Fall!

Margaret O’Leary Must Have Knits

One of my favorite outfits has to be a sweater (that’s not itchy but incredibly soft) worn with cutoffs. Seriously, right up there with picking apples, drinking hot apple cider, and breathing in the crisp fall air are CHUNKY KNIT SWEATERS, especially if they are made with cashmere. I think everybody can agree that everybody needs a little cashmere in their lives. In fact, these sweaters are the perfect hint to drop for birthdays or Christmas … or skip the hints and call it shopping therapy.
