NYE is fast approaching and this dress is the perfect way to kick it off! I love the one shoulder and ombré sequins but I really love the one shoulder. I bought this in small and I usually have zipper issues, but this zipped up without a glitch. These Tamara Mellon red heels are the perfect punch of color to kick off NYE and can’t wait to pair them with jeans. Even if I don’t end up ringing in 2018 at a party, it’s date night ready. What are you wearing?

Other New Years options:

I have such a soft spot for tweed and all things red. I mean, pardon the fact that I’m wearing a red baker boy hat on repeat on Instagram. However, tis the season right? This red coat and gold buttons is a total beauty. I love it dressed up and down and a total statement! My in-laws will be here over Christmas and I can’t wait to bust this out with black jeans, a sweater and sneakers.

I just love this tweed off the center skirt too. I had to adjust the belt since I bought it too big, my bad, but I still love it! What are you wearing for the holidays?

Southern California winters don’t usually allow for cute puffer coats and layers of sweaters, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still be cozy. I like to do this style with just a touch of chic – that’s the trick to dressing cozy – keep things comfortable, but adding a little something to avoid looking like you just rolled out of bed (even when you did!). Cue this amazing vintage style pullover from Bloomingdale’s. It’s chic with its colors and pattern, but at the end of the day it’s a terry sweatshirt that I can move in. Plus, I’m always into a hint of vintage – it makes things more interesting and unique.

To dial it up just a touch I’m adding these ripped black coated jeans and sneakers. The jeans are still very casual, but the sneakers add that little bit of laid back chic I mentioned. Pro tip? Find a balance. If you know your top is on the relaxed side, spice it up with a cute sneaker like I did here or a black boot for going out. If it got chilly at night, as it does here in Southern California, I’d add this coat to add a dash of glam to an otherwise sporty look.

You can find all of these pieces at Bloomingdale’s. I love shopping with them because I can get all the high fashion pieces I’m looking for along with some of my favorite brands all in one place! Have you tried Wildfox loungewear? Why am I so late to the game? See more favorites below.

I ordered a TON from Nordstrom Kids before we left for our trip to Vail. Us not living in a cold weather climate and donating lots of our coats just before we moved out of
Chicago left us with a laundry list of items to purchase for each of them. I got boots, sweaters, cute buffalo check jackets, Levi’s jeans (I mean I can’t even) and dresses with swans. Basically anything that was fun and had winter vibes since the kids don’t normally get to wear that kind of stuff. They definitely loved all of it!
One of the biggest reasons I went to Nordstrom Kids was because of their fast shipping and awesome selection. It was definitely quick enough to keep up with my ADD nature and needing items fast before our trip. They really delivered. No pun intended. What would I do without Nordstrom Kids?

Have you ever not attended an event because you didn’t feel like you had the right #ootn (outfit of the night)? Well, rest assured, a good dress, trusty pumps and earrings can take you from casual to chic easier than you think. And if you were thinking you may not have enough time for a proper makeup application, rest assured Nordstrom is offering complimentary makeup application for your holiday fête. So, what are you waiting for? RSVP +1 and enjoy yourself.

I can remember being a college kid and trying to fit as much as humanly possible into my closet. 5 poorly made shirts for $20? Yes please. Even if I didn’t necessarily love something, it seemed like quantity of cheap clothes was the way to go.

Somewhere along maturity and my style evolving, I started noticing less and less in my closet, but not in a bad way. Instead of spending $200 on a ton of overly trendy items, I began saving that $200 for a quality pair of boots instead. Or a jacket I could wear all year long with multiple styles. Or, a personal favorite, quality textures like cashmere.

If you follow along on Instagram, you know I’ve been living in Fabiana Filippi, an Italian line of cashmere. It’s textures like this that remind me that the quality of what’s in your closet extends far past having a million things you can only wear once.

I think it’s actually one of my favorite lessons I’ve learned as an adult, and one I’m trying to instill in my children. Though splurges might seem heavy on the wallet, if it’s something that’ll last for years to come and can be transitional (and comfortable – huge for me), it’s always worth the money in my opinion. What are your thoughts on quality vs quantity?

Thank you Fabiana Filippi for sponsoring this post!

3 Investment buys with Nordstrom

If there are only a handful of items you buy right now for this fall, make it a luxury scarf, booties, and comfy sweatshirt. I love this outfit combination not only because it is both high and low price points, but perfect for church, outings or date night. This scarf can be worn multiple times over a turtleneck sweater or dress. I personally love it dressed down with a sweatshirt and jeans. I love how Nordstrom carries such an awesome selection of refined pieces like Burberry that I tend to gravitate to every fall season. Thankfully Nordstrom makes it easy to shop using their curbside pick-up on the website. I’ll admit I’ve used it more than once, and it basically felt too easy. I had all four kids in the car, a soccer ball, 4 scooters, a crazy day, I called the 800# while I was parked, and two ladies from Nordstrom took all the bags to my car. How easy was that? This winter, we are planning a family vacation to Vail, CO, and while I’m super nervous about skiing since it is not my gift, I’m packing things like boots, sweaters, statement scarves and this Burberry deep V sweatshirt. If I can’t ski well, at least I can dress well and attend ski school.

I love gray boots so I included more below, including mine, the ‘thighland”

The coziest sweater actually exists and comes in 2 colors. Who knew? Also, if Reid and I are at all successful this weekend, we will have tried out at least one brunch or coffee shop we haven’t yet tried. I’m weaning myself off coffee actually, so I’ll be ordering the complicated matcha drinks that appear dinosaur green and using honey. I’ve given up agave as well. While I may have given up the drink I’m drinking here in the picture, I’ve actually had tons more energy drinking lots of H20, 3 glasses before 12 noon and so on. To those asking about my boots, these are from Stuart Weitzman, I love them! Here are similar around $220. I hope your weekend includes lots of coffee shop hangs and cute brunch spots with the ones you love, sacrifice and would do anything for. See here for some of my favorite LA coffee shops.

Happy weekend!

Taking Style Risks

If there’s one thing that’s been trending hard for the past year or two, it’s jumpsuits. I’ve seen people wear them to business meetings, parties, even weddings. I’ve always thought they were cool, but wasn’t sure I could pull them off. Once you hit a certain age, you tend to think you know what your personal style is and what works on your figure – and I’ve always been good with pants or dresses.

But this year I decided to challenge myself when it comes to fashion. It’s supposed to be fun after all, right? So I bought a jumpsuit!

Funny thing, now I can’t take it off, I like it so much. Beyond it being a nice refresh to dresses for events, it’s incredibly effortless. It’s literally one piece of clothing, and can transition well with accessories and shoes. I love it with these edgy black booties, but sandals would be cute, too. Plus, I thought it hit in all the right places and it made me feel confident. Something I would have never guessed!

In the name of taking all the risks at once, I of course went with a bright red jumpsuit. You guys know I love red. It feels seasonally appropriate and I’ve had a lot of fun styling it. I might add even more jumpsuits to my closet – which is a good reminder to go out of your comfort zone from time to time.

Have you taken any style risks this year? Are you into the jumpsuit look?

On a long ride to the country, we asked the kids who they think we should dress up as for Halloween. We usually like to keep things streamlined within the family. First option was Pocahontas, next was lifeguards. Not a huge surprise coming from our 7 year old who was helped by a lifeguard in Laguna Beach a couple months ago when she hit a rock underwater and gashed her chin. Long story short, she got 5 stitches and we had a solid 2.5 hour drive home. Maybe it was the first responders on the beach that convinced her we should honor them by dressing up as them, who knows. But I do know I love this hunk of lifeguard (who actually was a lifeguard in his teens!) and these flesh-eating, candy-loving cuddly sharks more than life itself. So much so that I didn’t even mind having an audience when we shot this at the Omni Hotel La Costa. Who cares when you’re having fun right? Lifeguards it is!

What will you be for Halloween? See our last years looks HERE!
