Back to School Lunch ideas

The kids are headed BACK TO SCHOOL and with that comes my nemesis, school lunches.  To simplify our busy schedules, I’m sharing a school lunch grocery list and some creative lunch ideas that don’t require utensils and are quick for you to piece together.  Oh and did I mention the kids love it.  I would love to hear some of your ideas, so leave me a comment.

I know getting back to school is daunting for both kids and parents, so please bookmark this post for your next shopping trip.  I’ve linked all these items to Walmart as well, because they have great healthy selections, low prices and some items can be delivered next day.  I’m all about less trips in the car, so this is a huge quality of life win.

Here’s what I look for when buying school lunch items.  Finger foods are great because we save plastic utensils.  As a rule of thumb, provide a protein to fill their bellies during the day, add fresh vegetables with hummus or ranch dressing and lastly dried fruit for dessert.  I’ve learned the hard way to not pack nuts.  Many schools do not allow nuts on campus so don’t waste them and keep them at home.  I also try to avoid filling the kids up with breads so here is a great idea for deli meat.  Take slices of ham and or turkey and roll it.  Then take the bamboo stick and make a kabob.  In between the deli meat add vegetables like cucumber, tomato, pickles or whatever else your kids like.  Think of it like a salad on a stick.  The best part, no dirty dishes for the kids to bring home.  Win, win!

Nearly four thousand reviews do not lie. These Day Heels are 5 star: comfy, buttery soft, and chic. And just when I thought that wasn’t possible!

The elasticized back allows movement and no blisters. I’ve worn these for hours and no blisters. I always want a heel without pain. Especially on days I am mostly on my feet or running to meetings on the west side.

Here I styled the red day heel with a leopard billowy top, skinny jeans, and small Chloe Faye bag for date night but stay tuned as I’m not done with these babies yet.

Fall Favorites Under $50

In the words of one of my readers, “Walmart has stepped it up!”

So many good picks for fall on their site. I’ll admit the site can be overwhelming, so I’ll narrowed down some fall looks for you from knits to denim. Here I styled this turtleneck poncho with black jeans and a tank underneath. I love a good turtleck sweater poncho! Perfect for weekends at Lake Arrowhead. I styled the leopard skirt with a black tank and simple sandals. I can’t believe this skirt is under $20!

I’m loving the “Next Day Delivery” option from Walmart with qualifying orders as well as easy returns. I’ve done both! If I’ve been between sizes, I buy both and return one. All you have to do is print out a return label on their website. Also, I make sure almost every purchase qualifies for Next Day Delivery.

Many of you have already made these $13 sandals sell out more than once!

Whether I’m shopping for fall layers, a sweater, a tank to go underneath, or a pair of sandals, Walmart has surprised me with their convenience, free shipping and wide array of premium brands. Have you checked it out? I even found some things the kids have loved but more on that later!

4. Isle of Paradise I buy this in DARK. Exfoliate beforehand, apply mousse evenly with mitt on fronts and backs of limbs.

6. Sunday Riley Good genes has a cult following and feels amazing on the skin. I’m wondering if Sunday Riley can do no wrong?

7. Tan Luxe “the face” I mix a couple drops into my moisturizer and boom, I have a tanner face to match my legs. Ha!

8. Tanning Mitt. This is a game changer! My hands are no longer embarrassingly dark and now I get an even tan!

BONUS 10! I haven’t splurged on this, but with the sale I’m tempted. The Dyson blow dryer or the Dyson Airwrap styler. No extreme heat damage was a big bonus.

1 // CONSISTENCY Post and write daily // Tell your audience what to expect and follow through.

2 // COLLABORATION Together we are stronger, do not shy away from partnering with a like minded bloggers. I once did a shoot with another fashion blogger, Sheryl from Walk in Wonderland and it was so fun! We shared each other on our blogs. Remember, collaboration over competition.

3 // BRANDING Think of your blog as your brand. Sit down and wrote down what your brand is about in 5 sentences.

4 // KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE Study you analytics, straight out ask them. Watch youtube videos on how to find your super power. Ask yourself what is something I know that no one else does or does as well as I do? Am I story telling? In marketing 101, we learn nothing is sold by just sharing facts. You must use story telling to sell your product. Are you telling your story and if so, how is your audience responding?

5 // JUST DO IT Not to sound cliché, but running a business is equal parts heart and head. Go outside the norm, challenge yourself. Do something that makes you scared. My college professor once said boldly, “Take holy risks.” I haven’t forgotten it.

6 // WORK HARDER AND SMARTER // Hustle, work until the work is done, make lists, and delegate. If you’re not good editing, find someone who is! Another pair of eyes is always helpful. I have a virtual assistant who is SO HELPFUL. Many days I wear many hats, from styling, creative directing, modeling to administration. All of it. You get the point! Don’t be afraid to jump in. If there is something you’re not an expert in, google it, and find someone who is. Don’t be afraid to reach out to another blogger. Collaborate! We all have separate gifts.

Nothing says fall like a new camel coat. I love how this one falls as an oversize knitted feel and cozy fit. I can’t believe the $129 price point. It feels like it could be the Ayr camel car coat for a cool $585, but in fact it’s just a fraction. I also found a camel coat version that ties in front. I LOVE FINDING items I know you will love. A year ago, Atalie came to me and said mom look, I have these red things on my nose! Her 8 year old brother said, “woah, Atalie has a ton of bug bites on her nose!” While we found out they were in fact not bug bites but pimples. Atalie was entering puberty and I won’t lie, I was a little scared. She’s my first, our guinea pig who taught Reid and I so much about parenting. All I knew to do was give her clean beauty products, and the knowledge that I knew. I taught her there are 4 easy steps to washing your face:

  1. Rinse with lukewarm water to cleanse
  2. Use your fingertips to apply cleanser
  3. Use a washcloth or scrubber to wash your face.
  4. Apply serum and moisturizer

Pt 1 Marriage + Relationship

Reid and I sat down and answered some of your questions I frequently get asked about. Like how long we’ve been married (13 years in march), where we met (Chicago), if we fight (haha) and what makes a good relationship tick. I thought these questions deserved more than an instagram post or IG stories answer, but a full on blog post. This blog post will be one of 2 posts. So welcome to the marriage series. I love this subject! Read on.

Key message:
1)     Marriage is a joy.
2)     Marriage is work.
3)     Marriage is intimate.

When I went to college there was a saying, “ring by spring”.  Do you know what kind of pressure that put on me?  While my girlfriends were all getting rings before graduation, I was yet to even go out on a date.  But not dating was my decision.  I was guarding my heart for the one man who deserved it.  I didn’t know who he was at the time, but I knew the kind of person he would be.  Here’s the man I was looking for and let me remind you that it is about the inside and whether he’s pleasant to look at  is just the icing on the cake.

A gentle spirit.  Yes!  So many people in our culture praise those men who are Type ‘A’ males.  Competitive winners, aggressive, loud, confident.  But for me, I find the man who has a gentle spirit is a man who will be loyal to you, a husband / father who is present and will compromise with you through life’s arguments (decisions).  Truth be known, even a gentle man has opinions…so don’t walk all over him.  Instead appreciate his prudence.

 A man who works hard.  You can tell when a man is a hard worker.  First, observe who he is among his friends.  Does he open the door for you?  Does he go out of his way to open the door for you?  Watch him around his friends.  Does he help his friends move into a new place?  Is he lifting things…or telling people what to do?  I prefer the guy taking action and not the guy bossing people around.

Why is character important?  His character will last throughout his life.  Not his blond hair and muscles.  So choose wisely girlfriends!  Be prudent and most importantly, guard your heart.  The man you are to call husband is out there. I know, because I waited and eventually I found him.

I’ll admit, one of my favorite searches to do is for a “CHUNKY KNIT.” I mean, what other sweater knit is there? I love the texture and feel and nothing is more fall ready than a sweater. Agreed?
