Sherpa pullover (S) // Twist leggings (sz 4) // Beanie Sherpa Hat // Bag (only $38!)

Men’s Surge Pants // Long sleeve top // Engineered Warmth Jacket

Just in time for the New Year, but first new GEAR! lululemon rarely disappoints and their new sherpa pullover and beanie live up to the hype. The turtleneck pullover is super soft and perfect for chilly SoCal nights.
Here are some pieces me and Reid picked up from lululemon recently to crush our at home garage workouts. Some days, scratch that, most days you need new gear to inspire new goals.
What about you?

What about you?

Big thanks to lululemon for sponsoring this post!

Align Leggings wearing a size 6 // Radiant Jacket II wearing a size 6 // 19L bag // waist run belt bag // Tank in violet verbena

It’s so important to have quality pieces to workout in. You can sweat, run, and still look cute in these lululemon pieces. I get a lot of questions about this bag. Its the perfect gym slash mom bag. pair it with the running belt, flattering leggings and this tank on repeat.

We’ve been spending lots of mornings at the home garage gym. Here’s what I’ve been doing in addition to crunches:

Try doing the following four times: a wall sit, a wall sit with reach, a hollow body hold, and a Superman position for 30 seconds each, followed by 30 seconds of rest after all of them.

Try doing 15 air squats, 20 lateral bounds, and a bear crawl five times to one side, then five times to the other, repeating the series for seven minutes.

I feel happier and more fit with little spurts of working out. Now, its your turn, how do you stay active?

Reid’s Fitness Journey

by Shalice Noel

I’ve always been into fitness.  You could say since the age I started swimming at our neighborhood pool.  I swam competitively starting at age 5 and didn’t stop until the end of high school.  Swimming taught me a lot about self-discipline.  Going to swim practice after school was draining in middle school.  But going to swim practice before and after school was even more draining.  It was that routine that made me a morning person today.  While those training days were exhausting, I was motivated to always be better the next day.  The fitness lifestyle is just that.  A little improvement everyday.

As a swimmer, you learn to push your endurance and that is much the same idea I use in my weight training.  I always try to do one more rep.  It’s really not about counting reps and stopping at a pre-determined number ie. 10.  It’s about pushing your body to the max.  Taking every last muscle fiber and killing it in order for it to grow back better and stronger.

As a avid lifter and trainer, I also realized my nutrition is key.  Otherwise the time spent in the gym is futile.  Shalice has all the credit concerning my diet.  When we first got married she pushed me to stop drinking soda drinks.  I grew up drinking soda at least 1-2 time a day!  (I’ve been off soda for 10 years now?)  And I don’t get cavities anymore either.  Shalice also started me on celery juice.  See her celery juice recipe and benefits in THIS POST. I have a large glass of celery juice on ice before I eat anything else.  I also try to not eat anything until lunch time.  I’ve noticed my “dad bod” spare tire is deflating and that makes me happy.  Lastly, Shalice has me taking LIFE liquid collagen and the Trim in lemon.  How does Trim work you ask? Trim contains CLA which is conjugated linoleic acid. The most well-established benefit of CLA is a fat fighting power. CLA is clinically shown to reduce fat cells size over time meaning you can have a great impact on the visibility of cellulite. CLA also helps your body build muscle rather than store fat and has anti-inflammatory properties. As for the Biocell LIFE Collagen I take, here are some of the benefits: improves joint mobility and lubrication reduces joint discomfort, promotes healthy cartilage and connective tissue, supports cardiovascular health, promotes healthy hair, skin, gums and eyes.

Shalice’s code is this: 3697593, to get $10 off for first time customers.

It’s incredible the extra flex I get as a result in taking Trim and Biocell Life in the last couple months.  I noticed much more cut in my mid-section and at 42 years old, I never thought I would have an almost 8-pack.

I guess I’m proof that if I can do it, you can do it.

Needless to say.  I love working out.  I love weight training.  But without good nutrition, consistency in training and proper supplementation, you may not reach your goals.  Keep up the grind.  Push for one more rep.  Practice self-discipline and everything will fit into place.

Rise and Grind friends.

Love this jacket! I got a lot of questions on the sizing on it, I went up to a size 6 so I could layer underneath.

Family Fit workout

by Shalice Noel

Ideas for family fitness:

  • Play tag, swim, toss a ball, jump rope, hula-hoop, dance to music or even play a dancing video game. It doesn’t have to be sports—just get your family moving!
  • Walk the dog, go for a jog, go on a bike ride, take the stairs or head to the park and let kids run around for a while.
  • Celebrate special occasions—like birthdays or anniversaries—with something active, such as a hike, a volleyball or soccer game or playing Frisbee at the park.
  • Get the whole family involved in household chores like cleaning, vacuuming, and yard work.
  • Walk instead of drive whenever you can. If you have to drive, find a spot at the far end of the parking lot and walk to where you’re going.
  • Park farther away and count with your children the number of steps from the car to your destination. Write it down and see if you can park even farther away on your next stop.
  • Train as a family for a charity walk or run.

Some of my favorite workout pieces come from lululemon and this gym bag slash mom bag is no exception!!

I’ve been living in these align leggings and cardigan on my run to go get take out while our kitchen is being renovated. This particular renovation has been throwing me off hence the blog silence.

But I’m back and grateful for my family, long walks, extra shot of caffeine and liquid collagen! See more of my favorite lululemon looks here and here.

Stay tuned for kitchen progress!

With some gyms closed and added rules, we have been working out in our garage. Who else is rocking out in their garage gym? I’m loving the convenience of working out downstairs. I don’t have any excuse not to workout now which is a little sad.

I was telling one of my readers, its been SO hard to get blog posts out lately with a toddler, homeschooling 4 kids, and a husband at home. Our mornings start with “whats for breakfast,” than I find myself cleaning up pancake batter everywhere, feeding Levi, stepping on pancakes on the floor, asking the kids if they did their English homework, etc. Than we do math and history etc. I make lunch, we clean up, I do some work, prep dinner, clean up go for a walk, watch an episode of The Middle, clean up, wash face, and hit the sack! All that to say, its been busier than ever. While you my reader is busier than ever, stores everywhere like Nordstrom are having crazy sales.

1.A good jogging bra can elevate an arm workout. I feel more confident and comfortable in this one from Alo.

2. A jump rope can get your heart pumping and burn calories. A perfect at home in the driveway workout. This one has 1k reviews! Did you know you can burn 15 to 20 calories per minute? Around 200-300 calories in a simple 15 minute workout. Not bad for $9 spent in workout equipment. I also love this pilates ring. More about how to use the pilates ring in THIS POST.

3. These leggings are $60 and very flattering

4. White sneakers sleek enough for post workout chic.

5. These drops for focus and chill. Very essential right now. Use code SHALICENOEL for a discount.

6. 24 ounces of water before noon, no problem! Nothing like a new water bottle to inspire you to drink more water. Keeping it from the kids is the hardest part.

7. This jacket is so flattering and great for chilly mornings or evenings when we usually workout.

8. Super flattering $20 tank you can dress up or down.

4 Family Workout Ideas + How to Get Started

Our family loves staying active and recently I’ve gotten quite a few questions from you guys about things we do as a family to sneak in exercise and how we got started making it a habit. I love these questions and am happy to answer them, however, I have to admit, Reid is a workout junkie and has done a great job not only teaching the kids about fitness but me too! Ha! So I will say, it helps to have him to kind of lead the way, but here are some ideas!

Go for family walks

This is one of the best ways to get started exercising if you ask me! Not only does this give you and your family a chance to move and get some exercise in, but it’s also great for talking and catching up with your kids and spouse. Start with a few walks a week and before you know it you’ll be moving on to my next idea!

Plan active activities for the family

This is something I want our family to do more of in 2020! We don’t want the kids growing up thinking of working out as a chore, but more as something they enjoy doing and I think finding fun, local activities to do like obstacle courses, a 3k or 5k, or even spending an afternoon at one of those trampoline places sounds like such a great way to show the kids that exercising is fun.

Use commercial breaks on TV to exercise

We try not to overdo it with the TV in our house, but when we do have TV time as a family, we try to make it into a game where on commercial breaks we have little fitness competitions. For example, one commercial break we might see who can do the most push-ups and then on the next one it’s jumping jacks. It’s fun for the kids and Reid and I. Plus, it doesn’t feel like a chore at all!

Playing games with the kids!

If you have kids, a great way to get exercise in for both you and them is by simply playing with them! We play tag and soccer all the time and plan on seriously breaking in the backyard at our new house with lots of outdoor games!

As for getting started, like I said, Reid kind of lit the fire for our family so I think it helps to have someone around that’s extra motivated simply because they enjoy working out. If you don’t have anyone like that in your family, then I recommend starting really small. Go for a family walk – even if it’s at a leisurely pace – and commit to doing it at least two to three times a week. Doing things like this will help you build the habit of moving your body, which is the most important thing in my opinion!

I hope this helps those of you who have been asking about family workouts and it inspires your family to get moving!
